The English Patient (Original title)
Date: 1996 (Copyright)

Country: USA

Director: Anthony Minghella

Synopsis: In Italy during World War II, Hana, a nurse, is looking after 'the English patient', a badly burned soldier who doesn't have long to live. Gradually, through flashback, the soldier tells his story. He is in fact the Hungarian, Count Laslo de Almásy, who spied for the Germans. In North Africa Almásy has an affair with Katherine, the wife of a British agent, Clifton. When Clifton learns of the affair, he tries to crash his plane, carrying himself and Katherine, on top of Almásy in the desert. Clifton dies and Katherine is badly wounded. The unscathed Almásy tries to get help for Katherine but fails. He carries her body to his biplane, hidden in the desert, and takes off, but he too is shot down and badly burned.
